Senior Product Counsel

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal and commercial advice to our product, tech and sales teams on payment laws, regulations, compliance and risks relating to our business.
  • Partner with sales, product, licensing and compliance teams to resolve open contractual points.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external Product related policies and procedures.
  • Assist with group-wide technology-mapping exercises.
  • Draft terms and conditions, contract templates, policies and procedures for new services and update existing ones to ensure compliance with new regulations.
  • Represent us on various fintech/payments-related topics before regulators, banking partners and other external audiences.
  • Manage and instruct external counsel on regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Manage the license application process for new product licenses.
  • Assist in general legal, commercial and regulatory compliance matters, such as audits/reporting and any other regulatory reporting and compliance matters.
  • Work closely with multi-cultural senior management and shareholders.
  • Reporting to the General Counsel.

Requirements

  • Indonesia qualified lawyer with 8 to 10 PQE relevant post-qualification experience, ideally from another FinTech company with financial regulatory background, specifically in payments.
  • Prior experience working in major financial institutions, financial services regulatory authority, or sophisticated financial services regulatory practice within a major law firm.
  • Familiar with license applications of Indonesian regulatory bodies (in particular, BI and OJK).
  • Familiar with anti-money laundering, data privacy, consumer protection, and anti-bribery issues.
  • A commercially savvy “business enabler”, who can proactively engage various stakeholders.
  • Executive presence, ability to lead and influence, and to articulate legal issues in layman terms.
  • Excellent language skills (written and verbal), able to make complex regulatory concepts clear to business teams, engineers, and regulators in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Strong knowledge of Indonesian laws and regulations especially Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 22/23/PBI/2020 on Payment Systems.
  • PERADI and/or HKHPM certification
  • Qualification or work/study experience in one or more other jurisdictions would be a bonus.
